RDSEA in Guyana, South America
RDSEA teams with Olin Hydrographic Solutions, Miami, FL (olinhydrographic.com) on a full survey and site assessment of the Waini River in Guyana, South America. Moving raw natural resources from the Interior jungles of Guyana to market is a very challenging task. Understanding rivers and the coast line from the Interior provides an advantage for the planning and safe passage of barges and shipping traffic to the offshore environment of the region. Olin Hydrographic and RDSEA have been contracted to conduct bathymetry and ocean physics surveys at the mouth of the Waini River in western Guyana for this purpose. The initial bathymetric survey has been completed and over the course of a 12 month period beginning in June of 2012, wave measurements (height, speed, direction, and frequency), water level, current velocity and direction will be observed with final reporting due in the June/July time frame of 2013. A series of Teledyne RD Instruments ADCPs with waves technology have been deployed (sea floor mounted, looking up towards the surface) for three-month increments. The first recovery and data download is scheduled for Sept., 2012 with subsequent recoveries to follow. Please see the RDSEA "Gallery" (ADCP Deployments) for a pictorial review of this project.
