MetOcean Support for the Oil and Gas Communities:
RDSEA offers over three-decades of “MetOcean” experience to the Global Oil and Gas community. Our technical support spans the full evolution of most ocean instrumentation available on the market today, especially subsurface Doppler technologies (acoustic Doppler current profilers or as commonly known; ADCPs). ADCPs quickly changed the way we measure and view the movement of water in our oceans, bays and estuaries. Full water-column physics (current velocity and direction) are now available including “density” (conductivity, temperature and pressure) from minimal point-locations using surface and subsurface buoy systems. Combined with sea-surface meteorology, we complete the MetOcean circle. Gliders and surface autonomous vehicles may also be employed. In-situ data can be recorded internally for download post recovery and also delivered to a desktop server for “near-real-time” dissemination on an hourly basis giving the end-user a quick snap-shot of the site location in question. These data can also be used as a part of HSE protocol as extreme weather events approach offshore structures that are in harm’s way. Regional MetOcean and Wave models of “hindcast, nowcast and forecast” applications may also be used to overlay data collected in the field to further enhance environmental impact assessment parameters. Models and real-time data also play an important role in hazardous material spill monitoring at the surface.
